Dragon Boat Society Raises $80K
The Save On Foods Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival raised $80,000 this year to help fight breast cancer on Central Vancouver Island. Nanaimo Save On Foods store managers Keith Monsen, Kevin Thompson and Tim Robertson joined Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival Society representatives Frank Mazzei, President, and Renee Bohun, Media & Corporate Sponsorship, on September 16th, 2008 to deliver the cheque to Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation. CEO Maeve O’Byrne and Chair Ian Thompson accepted the gift. Renee Bohun said the Society has “worked very hard in presenting Nanaimo with a premier event in keeping with our fundraising goals this year."
The Foundation and NRGH are truly grateful for this outstanding donation. Since 2003, the Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival Society has donated approximately $200,000 for breast cancer diagnostic equipment for the hospital's medical imaging unit. What a great demonstration of what our communities can accomplish by joining forces for a common cause!
